Sadoce Wilcox House Open House
September 14 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Salmon Brook Historical Society will open the Sadoce Wilcox House (circa 1787) for visitors from 10 AM until 4 PM. The newly restored pantry, second story (including the “mystery room”) and attic will be ready for viewing. Early nineteenth-century furnishings found in the house will be displayed and weaving demonstrations, courtesy of the Connecticut Weavers’ Guild, will take place on the 300-year-old Wilcox loom. The Historical Society also will set up an antique toy exhibit in one of the second story rooms. Make this a stop on your Open Farm Day itinerary and learn what life was like on a farm in historic West Granby!
The Wilcox Family Preserve
The Granby Land Trust purchased the 45-acres that include The Sadoce Wilcox House and the abutting working agricultural fields in 2019 from Steven Wilcox Hastings. Following this acquisition, the GLT transferred the historic Wilcox House and Barn, and the 2-acre lot on which it sits (with the GLT retaining a conservation easement on this lot), to the Salmon Brook Historical Society, who assumed responsibility for the home’s restoration and preservation. The GLT’s Wilcox Family Preserve is composed of the 43 remaining protected acres, and the GLT retains the development rights on the 2-acre parcel now owned by the SBHS.
