Get to Know the Trees at the GLT’s Dismal Brook Wildlife Preserve

June 8 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

A guided tour led by Michael Wojtech, author of Bark: A Field Guide to Trees of the Northeast

Join us on CT Trails Day—Sunday, June 8, from 12-2 pm—as we explore the fascinating world of trees at Granby Land Trust’s beautiful Dismal Brook Wildlife Preserve. Naturalist Michale Wojtech will help you to see trees in ways you may not have noticed before. We will explore how trees grow, reproduce, and interact with their environment across days, weeks, seasons, and years and over varying scales—from the intricate details of their bark, buds, flowers, and leaves—essential for species identification—to the ecological adaptations that enable them to thrive. The event will be held at the GLT’s beautiful Dismal Brook Wildlife Preserve.

As a naturalist, writer, speaker, photographer, and illustrator, Michael Wojtech strives to share the science and beauty of natural history in an accessible and compelling fashion. He began his ongoing study of trees at Antioch University New England, where he earned his master’s degree in Conservation Biology and edited the journal Whole Terrain. He strives to share the process of discovery—the keen observation, finding nuance and beauty in infinite layers, the evocation of multiple senses—and inspire the creative expressions and connections that flow from these experiences.
